Announcement Learning Open Call

Third LINA Open Call invites emerging architects and creatives to apply with ideas and practices addressing the environmental crisis

14.03.24

The Open Call seeks emerging spatial practitioners, thinkers, and creatives to become the next LINA Fellows.

Individuals and teams are invited to apply with radical ideas, practical solutions, theoretical insights or thought-provoking practices addressing the environmental crisis.

Through the LINA Open Call, 25 applicants/teams will be designated as LINA Fellows for 2024-2025. LINA Fellows (individuals or one person per team) will be invited to the 2024 LINA Conference in Sarajevo (3–4 October), while any of the eligible applicants may be invited to co-create the LINA Architecture Programme, a series of events run by member organisations of the platform across Europe.

About LINA

LINA stands for Learning, Interacting and Networking in Architecture. Now entering its third year, LINA is a European platform: a network of 34 institutions working at the intersection of architecture and other fields related to spatial culture. It works to promote emerging thinkers and practitioners with the goal of steering design and building processes towards regenerative practices and principles of de-growth.

A growing alliance of museums, universities, research networks, foundations, triennials, biennials, and other European and Mediterranean organisations — LINA members — carries out a series of events taking place all over Europe. The programme is coordinated by the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana and co-funded by Creative Europe.

Who we are looking for in this LINA Open Call

For this international Open Call, the LINA members network is seeking applications from innovative individuals and collectives across Europe. LINA is searching for innovators who develop spatial practices that question the status quo. LINA welcomes new and emerging voices to make their mark and will help amplify their radical ideas.

LINA offers a platform to those who have not yet reached an international audience and are not yet established in their respective fields. Age is not a limit, however only Creative Europe country residents are eligible to participate.

LINA welcomes applications from those wanting to participate in mentoring, teaching, residencies, research, writing, who want to present their work and develop meaningful programmes. Though travel is not always a necessity, member organisations seek those interested in international collaboration. LINA supports emerging practitioners who care for the future of our planet and who share our ethical values.

LINA opportunities with the Irish Architecture Foundation

Specifically, the Irish Architecture Foundation will commission a number of workshop leaders for our IAF Summer School 2025 and one promising writer for our LINA Writing Awards 2025, which are offered in partnership with dpr-barcelona.

Summer School leaders and Writing Award recipients will be selected through the LINA Open Call and will normally be resident outside Ireland. Irish applicants are encouraged to select member organisations and activities in other countries. You can select your preferred member organisations and programme elements as part of the Open Call online application.

Financial framework

There is no participation fee for the Open Call. One representative of each of the 25 selected LINA Fellows (which can be teams or individuals) will be provided accommodation and reimbursed for their travel (up to €350) to attend the LINA Conference in Sarajevo on 3–4 October.

After that, work within the LINA Architecture Programme is regulated through contracts that LINA Fellows sign with LINA members. The LINA team will support members and Fellows throughout the process. Contracts cover honorariums and expenses and define the amount of work undertaken by LINA Fellows.
