The Irish Architecture Foundation invites applications from architects and architecture graduates to participate in the 11th cycle of the Architects in Schools programme.

Architects in Schools 2023/24 is a free Transition Year programme, open to all second level schools and Youthreach centres in the Republic of Ireland.

This is a great opportunity to share your knowledge of architecture with young people and teachers in a fun and engaging way. If you have good communication skills and are looking for exciting ways to expand your practice, we would love to hear from you!

You will work directly with Transition Year students in their school or Youthreach centre, supporting them as they learn how to explore, research, design and communicate their ideas about architecture and the built environment. You will also collaborate with students and teachers to select work for the annual Architects in Schools exhibition in May 2024.

Architects in Schools is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, the Department of Education and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

How it works

– The time commitment is 4 hours or 20 hours per school – or more per year, it’s up to you!
– Work with 1-5 schools, as you prefer
– We will match you with one or more schools in the county/counties you request
– Flexible schedule, decided between you and your assigned school(s)
– Share your own creativity, experience and unique perspectives with young people!
– CPD points offered

There are two programme options. Architects may work across a combination of options A and B if working with more than one school.

Option A: Full Programme (20 CPD points)
20 hours per school (consisting of 12 hours of workshop facilitation and 8 hours of preparation time)
Fee: €1000 (incl. VAT) / €50 per hour

Option B: Introductory Programme (4 CPD points)
4 hours per school (consisting of 3 hours of workshop facilitation and 1 hour of preparation time)
Fee: €200 (incl. VAT) / €50 per hour

Key dates 2023/24

Friday 28 July 2023 at 6pm: Closing date for architects / architecture graduates. Applications have now closed.

Week of 7 August 2023: Architects will be sent an acceptance form to complete.

2023/24 Programme delivery: Workshops can take place any time between 11 September 2023 and March 2024. Dates, times and workshop duration will be arranged directly between the designated teacher / TY coordinator and the assigned architect.

By Friday 22 March 2024: Submission of exhibition material (5 photographs, short text) by architects.

May 2024: Architects in Schools exhibition event
