Understanding from the outset that the ‘building is the primary artefact’, a three-fold strategy of Support; Recover; Hold became a guiding mechanism for addressing the range of works involved in the making of the Tenement Museum Dublin. Balancing these to create a coherence and order, with an ethical overview throughout and continually keeping abreast of emerging research and insight from the community of former residents and neighbours, created the architecture present in the finished building. This approach to the conservation and reuse of 14 Henrietta Street as the Tenement Museum Dublin will be presented by Charles Duggan (DCC Heritage Officer) Gráinne Shaffrey and Tomás O’Connor (Shaffrey Associates Architects).
