Momentum – Exhibition Series

Momentum is the title of a sequence of exhibitions at the IAF's new gallery that endeavours to create a space, physically and introspectively, to document, contextualise and introduce to the public, the work of emerging architects and collectives, around whom exists a growing critical and curatorial consensus.

The Momentum architects chosen are re-imagining the future of architecture practice, and their work demonstrates a high degree of sensitivity to context, to the environment and to the public. The intimate space of the IAF gallery allows the architect to test a theory, revisit an old idea afresh, or present a proposition that can enhance their practice beyond the exhibition. The IAF gallery is used as a stopping off point, a paused moment for reflection on the way to something significant.

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation we are sorry to announce that the first planned exhibition in this series, Platforms by t o b Architect, has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.

Established in 2013 by Tom O’Brien, the practice is founded on a conviction that architecture, by virtue of its enduring nature offers us a platform to contemplate our place in the world.  The exhibition is seen as an opportunity to communicate the geometries, forms, structures, materials, references and personal context that continuously inform and manifest in the built work of t o b Architect.

In July plattenbaustudio, a Berlin-based studio founded by Irish architects Jennifer O’Donnell and Jonathan Janssens will launch their exhibition titled all mod cons. Their primary focus lies with the everyday inhabitation of built space and their intention is to transform the gallery into a 1:1 three-dimensional drawing which visitors can step into.

In November Noreile Breen, winner of the RIAI 2019 research award, will be exhibiting a mixture of printed drawings, printed photographs and large spatial models. Her practice is focused on creating buildings which have a rich spatial character with distinct qualities of light and rooted in the built heritage of the rural landscape. Noreile has previously exhibited with Drawing Matter London, CIVA Brussels and the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2018.

The series will be supported by the beautiful publication Momentum designed by Peter Maybury.
