The Irish Architecture Foundation (IAF) in partnership with Galway County Council Architectural Conservation Office and the Loughrea The Walks Project Steering Group with support from Creative Ireland and Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture; Small Towns Big Ideas present a competition for the commission of an architectural or designed intervention for The Walks, Loughrea, Co. Galway for Spring 2020.

We invite teams to apply with an indication of how they would engage with the local communities and what issues, if any, they wish to focus their research and project development on. The project must consider creating a temporary architectural intervention along The Walks, which connects the area to the community and the conservation works currently on going.

The project should have a tangible outcome but also respond to the community’s need, feedback and wider works currently happening on The Walks. We also wish for teams to propose a creative outcome for the project, although it is important to understand that this outcome may develop over the course of the process of collaboration with the project’s participants.

We invite creative teams to apply with an indication of how they would engage in a creative, collaborative process with the community and what designed structure would house these conversations on site.

This call is part of a larger project which has been investigating how people already use The Walks and what are the reasons people tend not to this information has been catalogued in the Reimagine The Walks, Loughrea Research Report
