Launch of Unbuilt.ie

28.02.24

The IAF is delighted to host the launch of Unbuilt.ie at IAF House on 28 February.

Unbuilt.ie is an ever growing online database of unrealised final year architectural designs based in Ireland.

Carefully curated site-specific knowledge rests bound in architecture theses in universities across Ireland, unknown to the communities they concern. Architecture theses have a creative optimism untethered by the constraints of construction and market viability. Although they may never be built, if shared, they have the power to strengthen local pride and connection to place. Unbuilt.ie showcases project summaries to highlight the overlooked beauty of our towns and landscapes, posing the question: What could be?

Unbuilt.ie is co-founded by Jessica Keller and Róisín Cahill, supported by the Irish Architecture Foundation and funded by an Engaging with Architecture Award from the Arts Council of Ireland. Over the past year, Jessica and Róisín have developed Unbuilt through dialogue with community activists, graduate architects, academia, and practitioners, directed by their core objective to connect ideas, community and place.

Unbuilt.ie harnesses the growing body of student work on an opt-in basis, providing public access to visual and written summaries of the theses online. By sharing these unbuilt reimaginings of place, Unbuilt.ie promotes an inclusive dialogue on our built environment.

Unbuilt shares ideas to spark conversation and envision a brighter future together.

The IAF is proud to have supported the development of this project as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting and providing resources for architects. We look forward to welcoming you on 28 February for the website launch and a celebration of all contributors!

Reserve your place.
