‘Architects of the Future’ Create a Cardboard City!

08.07.10-11.07.10

The IAF’s “Architects of the Future” crew of over 80 children have built a unique recycled city in Temple Bar from 8 – 11 July 2010, as part of the Summer Sensational festival. Architects Aoife Banim and Maria Tarsouli helped youngsters realise their vision in cardboard and other recycled materials.

The multi-level city includes a water tower, a harbour complete with ferryport, a folding cinema and open air theatre stage. Come down to Temple Bar to see the cityscape in its finished state! Construction ceased on Sunday but the finished cityscape will remain on view until Thursday 15 July. It is located at the Old City end of Temple Bar:

3-4 Smock Alley Court, West Essex Street, Old City, Temple Bar , Dublin (in the former Smock Alley Cafe premises, just past Cow’s Lane)

Many thanks to Philip Ryan and Alice Clancy for capturing these images of the architects of the future! Read a short blog entry by Philip on how he prepared for volunteering on the Cardboard City workshop.
