The 2019 – 2020 cycle of the Architects in Schools initiative is now completed in 28 schools nationally.
Architects and teachers collaborated to devise and deliver hands-on design projects for Transition Year students all over Ireland. The programme offers students insight from a professional into a potential career path and develops both tangible and intangible skills: drawing, model making, film, photography, mapping, presentation skills, debating skills, problem-solving skills and more. Above all, it instils and rewards creativity and curiosity in our surroundings.
In 2019, the IAF engaged behavioural change agency Real Nation to review the Architects in Schools initiative in terms of content, delivery and sustainability and make recommendations as to how to improve, change or expand the programme. In the academic year 2020/21 we will expand our programme by increasing the number of schools to 46, with the addition of introductory workshops in 16 schools.
Architects in Schools online exhibition 2020
This year the exhibition moved online as part of Project 20×20 – A Year Like No Other. The exhibition is in two parts: a video overview (below) and a series of 12 Instagram posts, showcasing the students’ work in more detail.
