2020 Programme, Curatorial Events

New Now Next

We will be continuing our successful talks series New Now Next now in its 7th year and sponsored by Arup. In 2020 our programme will explore justice, innovation and environment.

The purpose of these free events is to bring dynamic architects to Dublin to inspire audiences who are interested in the innovative research, design and construction of buildings and cities. New Now Next is about disseminating NEW Ideas, regarding contemporary issues relevant NOW that can impact on the NEXT generation. The profile and calibre of the speakers confirms Dublin as a key destination for the international architecture and built environment scene.

As a result of Covid-19 situation we are sorry to announce that the first planned talk in this series with Professor Toni L. Griffin has been postponed until further notice.

Previously scheduled for June, in October the IAF will host a talk by dynamic design studio SO IL, an internationally recognised architecture and design firm led by Florian Idenburg and Jing Liu who met while working for Sanaa in Tokyo. Amongst many projects they developed an iconic structure for the Frieze Art Fair in New York in 2012, the shrunk wrapped the gallery façade of Storefront for Art and Architecture in 2015 and designed the Home Futures exhibition in the Design Museum London in 2019. Booking information coming soon.

Our third New Now Next instalment in November is Japanese architect Akihisa Hirata, who set up his own practice in 2005 after working with Toyo Ito for many years. His housing and cultural commissions reveals how to create essential architecture by harnessing the laws of nature that govern the organic activities of plants, animals, and meteorological phenomena. Booking information coming soon.
