Urban Party in Tel Aviv-Yaffo

13.02.12

Urban Party Tel Aviv-Yaffo took place on the evening of January 16th in the Port of Tel Aviv. The format – as in Dublin in the Complex Smithfield last March – was simple. Twenty speakers, each speaker spoke for 3 minutes about their vision for their city – Tel Aviv–Yaffo. Speakers were diverse and included Daniela Posek (City Architect Tel Aviv Centre), Gideon Levy, “icon” of Israeli Journalism, (Haaretz Newspaper), Nitzan Horovitz, parliamentarian, (Knesset MK Meretz Party), Eman Elkasem Sulliman – Israeli Arab woman of the year, Stav Shafir Israeli social activist that spearheaded the 400,000+ demonstrations in Tel Aviv last summer.

The vision and topics under discussion were as diverse as the speakers, from High Tech to High Buildings, from the prosaic – building preservation versus building conservation – to the socially charged and highly politicised, social inequality, racial discrimination, Arab Jewish relations and accusations of planning corruption. The atmosphere was charged, the speakers passionate the audience politicised. The event got half a page review in prominent newspaper (Esther Zanberg – Architecture and Urban Correspondent Haaretz).
The Urban Party “brand” of REDRAWING DUBLIN moves to Jerusalem in November!
