Announcement Open Call

SOA’s Reimagining Elderhood open call for architects

28.03.22

Reimagining Elderhood is a multi-strand collaborative research project which SOA Research CLG are coordinating throughout 2022/23, funded by the Arts Council of Ireland. The project explores the future housing needs of people currently in mid-life in Ireland, and the role of community-led housing approaches in providing innovative responses to this challenge.

As a core element of the project, SOA have launched an open call offering a paid opportunity for three architects (emerging or established) to develop their co-design and participatory community engagement skills while creatively exploring one of Ireland’s greatest spatial challenges: how to design future-oriented neighbourhoods that foster community for all ages and maximise the possibilities for positive ageing in Ireland.

Selected architects will work with a specific community (of place or interest) of their choice, with a view to collaboratively imagining and designing their ideal future neighbourhood.

Reimagining Elderhood is a one-stage competition seeking proposals from architects (individuals or collectives) based in Ireland. Applications will be assessed by a jury including SOA and mentors (local and international), who will select three proposals to be funded with €7,000 (incl. VAT) each. Each of the three selected architects will be supported by a mentor who is an architect and expert in participative design, with a view to developing their co-design and public engagement approach. SOA and mentors will work with the three selected architects to co-design a public dissemination programme for the project outputs in early 2023.

How to submit: email your application to hello@soa.ie by 20 April (5pm).

Full details are available on the SOA website.
