After an open call we are delighted to announce that OBFA (O’Brien Finucane Architects) have won the contract to deliver a temporary architectural installation in Chamber Square, Tallaght. OBFA were selected as the winners not only by a jury made up of representatives from the IAF, South Dublin County Council, Tallaght Community Arts and the institutions surrounding the square, but by the public through a consultation event in Tallaght Library. OBFA’s design was selected by both jury and public for being playful, bringing tactile and green materials to the space and allowing for a variety of uses by a variety of users. Construction on their piece has begun with opportunities for further consultation and engagement in the pipeline.
This installation will be in place from the 16th of September for 2 weeks with a programme of exciting events from the surrounding institutions (Tallaght Library, Rua Red, Civic Theatre and Tallaght Community Arts), melting the walls between them and the public. Come join us for the launch event on Wednesday the 18th September at 1pm. Or if you just fancy having a sit and eating your lunch, reading a book, or watching the world go by then come by anytime!
Melt the Walls is part of the IAF’s Reimagine… programme of community engagement nationwide, funded by the Creative Ireland Programme. The Melt the Walls project is delivered in partnership with South Dublin County Arts Office and Tallaght Community Arts.
