Reimagine Sessions: From Mini Forests to Pocket Parks

20.05.21

We have invited three speakers to reflect on the value of these small and valuable spaces, and consider ways that we can design our surroundings with the health of our bodies, communities and planet in mind.

Bloomin Crumlin is a community-led greening initiative focused on enhancing streets, green infrastructure, and biodiversity in the Crumlin and Kimmage area in Dublin. Using a bottom-up approach, they work with local residents to collectively develop a vision and strategy for a greener area, enhancing existing green spaces and looking for greening opportunities on streets that are accessible by all.

Esther Gerrard, designer, multidisciplinary consultant and co-director of the creative collective Green Edge, as well as Dublin Bloom Fringe.  The goal of Green Edge is to celebrate biodiversity and sustainability, encouraging and inspiring people on a local level to use their city and places more.

Professor Doina Petrescu is an architect, activist and co-founder of Atelier d’Architecture Autogérée and Professor of Architecture and Design Activism at the School of Architecture, University of Sheffield, UK. Her research in the fields of architecture and urban planning, focusing on issues of co-design, civic participation, gendered practices, political ecology, co-production and urban resilience. Doina will reflect on the journey and legacy of two participatory experimental projects, ECObox (2001 to date) and Passage 56 (2006-to date), in Paris, France. Initially conceived as temporary community gardens to encourage local residents to think critically about underutilised space and pockets of potential in urban interstices, these projects evolved into collectively self-managed, resilient and sustainable spaces.

The Reimagine Session: From Mini Forests to Pocket Parks is now Fully Booked! Registration is closed for this event.

This event will be captioned. If you have a particular access request please email learning@architecturefoundation.ie.
