OHD Programme Highlights Announced!

15.08.17

2017 marks the 12th – and biggest ever – Open House Dublin, presented annually by the Irish Architecture Foundation, which takes place from Fri 13 to Sun 15 October 2017.

Open House Dublin is a free annual celebration of the city’s best architecture, when buildings of all types and periods open their doors to allow citizens and visitors to explore. The theme for 2017’s event is The City as a Stage. Dublin and its architecture has been the backdrop to the daily dramas of everyday life for centuries, and this year’s programme explores how its citizens have made their mark on the city and investigates the architects, artisans and thinkers that influenced its design, construction and development, past and present.

There are more tours and events this year than ever before, and some new and exciting additions to this year’s bumper programme include:

Open House Dublin 2017 will also feature dlr RED JETTY, a temporary and moveable park bench designed by A2 Architects in collaboration with Alan Meredith Studio and supported by Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council for Creative Ireland – which can be found in a number of parks and public spaces in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown during the summer months – in situ in Marlay Park in October.

As well as building tours, Open House Dublin 2017 will also feature the ever popular Open House Junior: a programme of architecture-themed events developed for younger citizens including design and build workshops and family-friendly “archi-treks”, and Open House Plus: ancillary exhibitions, walking tours and other events.

“This year we are excited to present to you the biggest ever line up for Open House Dublin, a weekend that unashamedly celebrates architecture and the people that make this city”, said IAF Director Nathalie Weadick. “We are all actors on “The City as a Stage”; the architects who design the buildings, the clients who commission them and the participants who use them. When you engage in architecture you actively connect to your life and to your city. It is a truly creative collaboration. Open House Dublin 2017: an unmissable performance.”

The Full Open House Dublin 2017 programme will revealed in mid September 2017.

Most building tours are open on a first-come, first-served basis. A small number of building tours will be available to book on a lottery basis, details in September.

Open House Dublin is presented by the Irish Architecture Foundation  and is part of the Open House Worldwide Family. The IAF, who delivered its first Open House Dublin in 2006, has firmly established the project as Ireland’s largest architectural event with an estimated 31,000 building visits in

Open House Dublin is partnered with Dublin City Council and the Government Policy on Architecture and supported by Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County CouncilWaterways Ireland, JCDecaux, Totally Dublin, RTE Supporting the Arts and Open House Worldwide.
