Planning Permission Submitted for Ballyfermot Play Park

08.11.16

The Play Park is a people first design project initiated and led by the Irish Architecture Foundation (IAF), and co-funded by the Matheson Foundation and Dublin City Council. The project set out to transform the Lawns at Le Fanu Park in Ballyfermot as a new play and skate park. In addition, it aimed to provide a much-needed space for the Ballyfermot Youth Services BMX club to practice with state-of- the-art skate + BMX facilities.

The project commenced in July 2015 with an international design competition to seek the best designs for the park. London-based architecture firm Relational Urbanism; scooped the prize for their brilliant plan, featured below.

The architects from Relational Urbanism have been working closely with the community and with Dublin City Council to prepare final plans for the proposed park. These plans were recently submitted to Dublin City Council to be reviewed for planning permission.

The proposed park will closely resemble the image shown here, with a skate area situated to the rear of the Ballyfermot Sports & Leisure Centre, and a play/ recreational area facing Le Fanu Road.
