The opening of this year’s Cork Centre for Architectural Education (CCAE) Master of Architecture graduate show, DRIFT[C]ITY will present visitors with an array of drawings, models and films describing student design proposals for the cities of Berlin and Prague.
“The innumerable reconfigurations of the ‘self’ that travel promises provided a centre for our own ‘launching out’ during this last year. Like Beckett, who initially felt “very dubious” as he set sail from Cobh to Hamburg in 1936, we had to similarly reassure ourselves that our destinations were at least not entirely ‘unknown’. The cities of Berlin and Prague offered immense opportunity to situate architectural projects within their complex historical, social and cultural strata. Oscillating between the experiential and the speculative, sometimes drifting, sometimes alert, our aim was to challenge what may seem familiar. Throughout our year – long architectural investigations, we sought to build an entirely new epistemological project base.”
Opening night: Friday September 18 from 6pm
Exhibition Dates: Friday 18 to Friday 25 September (Closed on Sunday 20 September) Opening Times: 10 am to 5 pm daily.
