2022 Programme Announcement Learning Open Call

LINA call for projects to counter climate crisis through architecture

28.07.22

LINA, the new European architecture platform, is helping architecture professionals tackle the climate and environmental crisis.

LINA, a major new European architecture platform, has today announced details of an open call for architectural projects to tackle the climate crisis and its consequences.

In this first Call for Projects, LINA invites emerging architects and other creatives in the EU to share original ideas, projects, or practices that might help make the European Green Deal a reality. The programme, headed by Matevž Čelik and the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Ljubljana, is a continuation of the Future Architecture Platform. As the only Irish LINA member organisation, the IAF is excited to bring this opportunity to early-career architecture and creative professionals in Ireland.

The newly-minted LINA network is an alliance of architectural museums, universities, research networks, foundations, triennials, biennials, and other architectural organisations: key players that can help big ideas reach the right ears. Through the call for projects, open until 12 September, representatives of these institutions will act as jurors to select 15 outstanding projects.

The selected entrants will become LINA fellows and will be invited to speak at the first annual conference, which will take place in Ljubljana in October 2022. The conference programme will feature some of the most prominent thinkers in the field of architecture, an analysis of the State of Architecture address, and a host of innovative ideas promoting the values of the European Green Deal and the New European Bauhaus. In matchmaking events, LINA fellows and members will connect and decide on the best ways in which to feature selected projects in specific events of the LINA Architecture Programme.

The goal of the platform is to steer the architectural sector towards sustainable, circular and clean practices. As many such initiatives exist, the platform connects and amplifies their efforts. Member institutions contribute to the LINA Architecture Programme with conferences, mentorship programs, workshops and other events. Authors of the selected projects will be invited to contribute; LINA highlights these new and emerging voices, giving them an international platform.

The LINA Architecture Programme will take place until the end of May 2023, when the cycle will repeat with another Call for Projects, giving another opportunity to feature new projects and forward-thinking ideas.

Commenting on the announcement of the LINA open call, Nathalie Weadick, Director of the Irish Architecture Foundation, said: “The Irish Architecture Foundation is excited to represent Ireland in the LINA network. Our membership enables us to join with peer organisations across Europe to create opportunities for emerging architecture professionals in Ireland, and the whole EU, to enhance their research, practice, international networking, and career development. Ireland has so many talented young architects. We strongly encourage them to take this opportunity to propose their own projects through the LINA open call.”
