The IAF, The Glucksman and the National Sculpture Factory present Curating Architecture a public conference in Cork, Ireland. The conference will take place in conjunction with the launch of the Close Encounter: Meetings with Remarkable Buildings touring exhibition at The Glucksman.
The Close Encounter tour is produced by the IAF to encourage a national conversation among art and architecture professionals that builds on the achievements of Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara in curating Freespace at the 2018 Venice Architecture Biennale.
An International panel of curators, artists and architects, will be invited to re-examine the challenges of defining architectural representation and exhibition, and to propose new directions and possibilities for curating within the practice of architecture and art itself.
The conference will examine how exhibitions can communicate not just literal and concrete properties (archive, material and artefact), but also the invisible, and even the intangible qualities of architecture (experience, activism and fiction).
The conference seeks to be at the forefront of new curatorial initiatives internationally and is cognisant of the development of architecture for exhibition through the emergence of more audience-focused displays at biennales as well as in museums and galleries worldwide.
The conference will take place from 9.30-6.30 on Saturday 6 April 2019 in The Glucksman in Cork, Ireland.
A ticket to the conference will include an invitation to the opening of the exhibition the previous evening on Friday 5 April at 6.30pm.
Line up will be announced soon and tickets for the conference will go on sale in March 2019.
