Building on the first IAF/CCI residency award in 2024, we are thrilled to confirm we are now fully supporting a 1-month residency as part of the IAF’s gaplab graduate architect programme.
This residency award is specifically intended for architects/architectural graduates embarking on their careers in architecture. Applicants must be at an early stage of their career, specifically between 3-8 years post-graduation of a 5-year prescribed qualification in architecture. You do not have to be on the Register of Architects to apply for this residency. Applicants must be Irish citizens or normally resident on the island of Ireland.
The IAF will use our local, Paris-based network of architects, writers, curators and others to support the successful applicant in their residency at the CCI.
Where relevant, applicants are encouraged to identify individuals or organisations that they may wish to connect with during their time in Paris.
Applicants with queries can write to the IAF at info@architecturefoundation.ie.
The call for applications is open from 14 November 2024 and closes 14 January 2025, 17:00 GMT. The 1-month residency can take place between September 2025 and June 2026.
Applications are made through a dedicated platform on the Centre Culturel Irlandais website only. You should not send any application material to the IAF.
Full details of how to make an application can be found on the CCI website. Please read all the eligibility criteria and information on the CCI website carefully before applying.
On the CCI site, you will be asked to supply: a portrait photograph, current CV, biography (200 words), residency proposal (200 words), participation proposal (50 words), and other details including your familiarity with French language and culture and your proposed residency dates.
Please ensure you tick the box ‘I am applying for the Irish Architecture Foundation’s gaplab Residency’ in the online application form.

For over two decades, the Centre Culturel Irlandais’ annual residency programme has offered great opportunities to over 450 artists of all disciplines. Tapping into the resources of the CCI and the city of Paris has been described as ‘transformational’ by many former residents. For the CCI, the residencies are an important means of supporting artists and showcasing Ireland’s dynamic contemporary culture on an international stage.
In 2024, the Irish Architecture Foundation introduced gaplab, a new graduate architect programme which aligns with our core mission to grow the desire for architecture in Ireland. Through gaplab, we work to support graduate architects to bring architecture to audiences, building capacity among architects in public engagement practice. Through gaplab, we also aim to give space to graduate architects, to sustain their vital imaginations, to foster their capacity to innovate and to take risk in their creative practice. A successful recipient of the IAF-CCI Paris residency will become a member of gaplab for two years from the date of the award and enjoy other supports and mentoring opportunities from the IAF.
