The IAF’s Architects in Schools programme celebrates creativity, experimentation and active citizenship.

Entering into its 12th annual cycle in 2024/25, Architects in Schools is free and open to all second level schools and Youthreach centres in the Republic of Ireland.

This Transition Year programme is experiential and participatory, providing an introduction to architecture and the design process for young people. There is no cost for your school to participate. An architect or architecture graduate will be assigned to your school to facilitate design workshops, with the student voice at the centre of the process.

The Architects in Schools programme offers 12 hours of architecture workshops at your school, with an architect or architecture graduate. There is an annual show and tell exhibition day in May every year, and all schools will be invited to participate.

Schools will hear back from the IAF in early September 2024 regarding the outcome of their application.

Please note that due to limited spaces on the programme we cannot prioritise schools that have already participated a number of times, but do apply in case we can accommodate you. We always aim to reach a wide range of school types with a broad geographical reach, so that consideration, and the availability of architects nationwide, will determine the selection process.

How it works:

If your school is offered a place, an architect or architecture graduate will travel to your school to facilitate the workshops. The programme offers 12 hours of workshops per school, with an architect or architecture graduate. The hours can be divided up to suit the particular school and architect. (For example: 2 x 6hr, 3 x 4hr, 4 x 3hr, 6 x 2hr workshops). Dates, times and workshop duration will be arranged directly between the designated teacher  / TY coordinator and the assigned architect. IAF are not part of this process. Workshops must take place between September 2024 and March 2025.
