2020 Programme Announcement Festival Project 20x20

Announcing Open House Dublin 2020!

06.07.20

Open House Dublin, Ireland’s largest festival of architecture, is set to take place this year on the weekend of the 8 -11 October.

This year’s event will differ from previous years with a strong focus on online and digital events.  Highlights from the programme include a unique series of specially commissioned film shorts celebrating and showcasing Dublin’s architecture with offerings by Pritzker Prize winners Shelley McNamara and Yvonne Farrell from Grafton Architects, an aerial tour of Dublin with international architect and writer Niall McCullough, and a tour of Temple Bar with journalist Frank McDonald.

The annual Big Debate will also return, inviting leading experts to debate issues around wellbeing, climate change and people centred cities. In addition, there will be self-guided tours across the city and activities for all ages marking 15 years of Open House.

Nathalie Weadick, Director of the IAF, said: “With Open House Dublin taking a slightly different form than usual this year, it will be a unique opportunity to reach new audiences nationally and internationally, to innovate and explore new ways of connecting and collaborating and to occupy new spaces and platforms.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has changed so much for all of us around the globe. It has put our regular lives on hold, altered how we engage with and view our everyday surroundings, our homes, our working environments, our places of refuge and social interaction. Many of us have rediscovered our communities and neighbourhoods and uncovered the extraordinary in the everyday.

“This extraordinary year, Open House Dublin will celebrate the resilience, exceptional potential and talent in architecture and urban design within our city and nation. We look forward to collaborating with architects, local authorities, policymakers and the private sector, and to sharing ideas with the public that are essential to the unprecedented time we live in.”

Delivered by the IAF, Open House Dublin is supported by partners Dublin City Council and the Department of Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht. The festival is sponsored by CBRE and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Co. Council and supported by the IAF Corporate Circle: DNG, Dublin Port Company, Hibernia REIT, Hines, Henry J Lyons, Oakmount and O’Mahony Pike.

Full details of the event programme will be announced in the coming months.
