Architects in Schools Exhibition 2023

19.04.23

The 10th annual Architects in Schools exhibition offers Transition Year students the opportunity to participate in an exchange of ideas followed by an architect-led tour of the dlr LexIcon Library.

The 10th annual Architects in Schools exhibition will take the form of a one-day participatory event at the dlr LexIcon in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, on 11 May 2023.

Transition Year students from 12 secondary schools will visit throughout the day to participate in an exchange of ideas followed by an architect-led tour of the award-winning venue.

This one-day exhibition and exchange celebrates the creativity and vision of Transition Year students nationwide who have taken part in the IAF’s Architects in Schools programme in the 2022/23 academic year.

This year’s programme focused on Spaces for Learning, with architects and architecture graduates giving hands-on workshops that encouraged students to observe and design potential enhancements to the built environment of their schools and school grounds. As the primary users of these spaces, young people were brought into the process of imagining what their ideal spaces for learning would be like and how to make the most of the structures that already exist. In this way, the Architects in Schools programme nurtures creativity and active citizenship as well as teaching skills like making scaled drawings and 3D models.

This year’s exhibition is not open to the public, but only to school groups that have booked in advance.

Architects in Schools is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, the Department of Education, and the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
