IAF returns to the BTYSTE 2018

The Irish Architecture Foundation will return to the 2018 BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition with our BT Special Award for projects relating to architecture and the built environment! Last year’s first ever award was won by Joseph O’Donoghue of St. Joseph’s College, Co. Tipperary for his project ‘Solar Sleeve’. Here’s what Joseph told us about his project: “The main purpose of the ‘Solar Sleeve’ is to make the energy production from Wind Turbines and the existing grids on site more productive, by doubling the functionality of them by adding photovoltaic cells to the tower. The reason why it would be doubling the functionality, is because not only would the wind turbine be harvesting wind energy but it would be harvesting solar energy too.”
