2019 Programme Symposium

Marion Mahony Griffin @Women in Design

This conference is both a celebration and an exploration of Irish women working in Design. The conference aims to explore topics such as women designers in The Museum’s collections, the significance of gender in design and whether it is important that designers are recognised and remembered as women.

Some of the themes explored include women designers in the collections of The National Museum of Ireland – the celebrated and well known and the not so well known and the Irish women designers who may be forgotten, overlooked or overshadowed. Questions the conference aims to address include, would our designed environment be different if there were more women working in design; and how can more women be encouraged to work in Design in Ireland.
