IAF Members: September Tour

Join Dr. Joe Brady (UCD) on this special IAF members walking tour on Saturday 24 September, 2-4pm exploring Marino to Drumcondra to look at Dublin Corporation’s reserved policy as it evolved in the 1920s.

One of the innovations which Dublin Corporation introduced into the development of Marino, its first large scale suburban development, was its ‘reserved areas’. The idea was that a portion of the scheme would be reserved for houses of a superior quality and these would be sold to higher income purchasers. When Dublin Corporation came to develop Drumcondra, almost immediately following Marino, the reserved area was on the same scale as the social housing to its south. Because of the way that plots were allocated, it produced a very distinctive urban landscape.

Our walk will take us from Marino into the Drumcondra development and we will see a variety of housing styles and layout.

Places are limited so please RSVP to shauna@architecturefoundation.ie
