UCC Architecture Society hosts Amin Taha for a lecture entitled ‘Etymology of Architecture’, followed by the RIAI Southern Region AGM. Amin Taha was born in Berlin and is settled in London. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh and worked on cultural, residential, education and infrastructure projects before incorporating the practice in 2005. In addition to running design and detailing of projects Amin continues to teach, lecture and crit in schools of Architecture. His practice, Groupwork + Amin Taha, were shortlisted for the 2017 Stirling prize for Barretts Grove, their brick clad development of six apartments in east London.

“All architecture has a legible narrative whether carefully composed, layered to be revealed over multiple visits or simply illustrating commercial expediency. However it is the lack in understanding the structural, tactile and aesthetic qualities of materials which is in danger of diminishing the literacy of all architectural languages. Relearning these would within an age of postmodernity give all architects the freedom to explore their own narratives with legitimacy based on a legible poetic architecture.” This is a free event and is open to all.

Following this, the RIAI Southern Region AGM will take place at the CCAE, Copley St at 8pm on the 4th floor. All RIAI members are requested to attend.
