The National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History, is delighted to announce “Women in Design”, a conference which is both a celebration and an exploration of Irish women working in Design.

The conference aims to explore topics such as women designers in the Museum’s collections and whether it is important that designers are recognised and remembered as women.

24th May

The first day of the conference will include key questions and themes such as the significance and meaning of gender in design and the potential difference of our designed environment if there were more women working in design.

Speakers include Shelley McNamara co-founder of Grafton Architects, Dr Juliet Kinchin, Curator of Modern Design, Department of Architecture & Design, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, Artist Alison Lowry, Designer, Sasha Sykes and Helen McAllister, Head of Applied Materials, School of Fine Art, NCAD.

25th May

The second day of the conference will conclude with insights into themes such as Women Designers in the collections of the National Museum of Ireland; The Irish women designers who may be forgotten, overlooked or overshadowed and how can more women be encouraged to work in design

Speakers include Jennifer Goff, Curator of the Eileen Gray collection and Furniture, National Museum of Ireland, Ann Scroope founder of Scroope Design, Kim Mackenzie Doyle, Head of Marketing & Product, Voxgig’ Founder of WhyDesign, Linda King, Lecturer: Design and Visual Culture, IADT and Wendy Williams, DIP VIS COMM, MA (HONS) (NUI), ANCAD
