Peter Maybury – Make ready

The Library Project, 5-22 March 2015

Thursday 5 March, 6.00pm

Discussion with printer Marcel Meesters, book launch and exhibition opened by Gerard Byrne followed by drinks reception.

Make ready is a reader to the exhibition at the Library Project, published by Gall Editions and Ways&Means for OFFSET2015 at which Peter is the opening speaker. Part manifesto, part process journal, it gathers recollections and observations on the making of work and how we experience our often heavily mediated environment.

The book is printed by Marcel Meesters, with whom Peter has collaborated for many years. Marcel will speak on a panel during OFFSET. The book is edited by Tom dePaor with text filtering Dennis McNulty. It was printed by MM Artbook printing & repro.

Make ready is an exhibition of Peter Maybury’s studio output over a twenty year period, a practice which he regards fundamentally as a joint-venture. The exhibition will include many books, prototypes, records & CDs; video and audio works. Some of the many collaborations include CODE magazine, the Dublin French Film Festival, and the bread and butter stone; books with Sarah Browne, Gerard Byrne, Fergus Feehily, Barry Flanagan, Patrick Hall, Candida Höfer, Barbara Knezevic, Alice Maher, James McKenna, Dennis McNulty, Sarah Pierce, Garrett Phelan, Shahzia Sikander and Janaina Tschape; numerous titles for the Irish Museum of Modern Art including The Moderns, Vertical Thoughts: Morton Feldman and the visual arts; and Boulevard Magenta magazine; and more than 25 books for the Douglas Hyde Gallery.

Peter has collaborated with architectural practices including Bucholz McEvoy Architects, Grafton Architects, O’Donnell + Tuomey Architects and dePaor Architects. He co-curated the Underground exhibition with Dennnis McNulty and the Irish Pavilion, 12th Architecture Biennale, Venice 2010

His on-going Gall collaboration with Tom dePaor began with the N3 publication and includes Delay/Relayer made for The Lives of Spaces at the 2008 Venice Biennale, Temperance for EV+A at the Hunt Museum, and the books Reservoir and Of. Their film These islands was shown at The Everyday Experience, IMMA and at Letterkenny Regional Cultural Centre, both curated by the Irish Architecture Foundation’s Nathalie Weadick.

Peter’s music and recording projects Hard sleeper, Thread Pulls, Rainfear and Messages sonores are all available to listen to.

This is NOT an IAF event. For more information please see Peter’s website.
