MAKE 2018 will focus on making in the interplay between art and architecture. It features a broad range of arts and architecture practitioners, including Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa. Juhani is a leading international figure in contemporary architecture, education, design, and art culture. As well as directing a busy international architecture practice, he served as Dean and Professor at Helsinki University of Technology(1991–98); Director of the Museum of Finnish Architecture (1978–83); and Rector of the Institute of Design, Helsinki (1970–71). He has held several visiting professorships in the U. S. and lectured widely in Europe, North and South America, Africa, and Asia. He will speak on making and materiality from the perspective of his sensitive and influential philosophy of architectural space and tactile awareness, and his participation in the symposium is sponsored by the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, Southern Region.
