We are excited to announce that we will be joined by Silvia Loeffler on July 16, 12noon – 1.30pm, for a unique walking tour of Dún Laoghaire. Don’t miss out!

Glas Journal Walk – Liquid Mappings – Silvia Loeffler

Reserved for the indefinite shades of green, blue and silver present in the sea, the Old Irish word glas opens onto the world of possibilities that may be reflected in the translucent qualities of water. This chromatic generosity is used as a marker for Silvia Loeffler’s alternative mapping project Glas Journal, which crosses creative arts practice with geography, which Silvia will introduce to the members of the IAF. Our walk will comprise 14 sequential harbour locations between the West and the East Pier of Dún Laoghaire Harbour bordering the Irish Sea, including Silvia’s studio space in the former Coast Guard Station, which is one of the central spaces that shape this particular stretch of coastline. We will look at the piers as spaces of transition for those passing through and fluctuating between land and sea, and – in order to create an understanding of social and cultural experiences of place and movement – we will explore the harbour as a womb-like space that reflects the psychological attachments of the people who work and live in the various locations.

Please RSVP to shauna@architecturefoundation.ie or call 01 8747200.
