Eureka Festival is focused on a series of themes. On the afternoon of Tuesday the 14th of November (2- 5 pm) the theme is ‘Smart Cities’, explored by the following speakers:

2 pm: Jim Heverin Architect & Director from Zaha Hadid Architects London (Smart cities means what?),
3 pm: Dr. Eddie O’Connor Chief Executive at Mainstream Renewable Power ( Energy and the smart city).
4 pm: Dr William Brazil Trinity College Dublin. ( Transport systems and the Smart city),

Jim Heverin Director Zaha Hadid Architects
Jim joined Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) in 1997, and he’s been a director since 2009. He has worked on many of the practice’s seminal projects, and has led several high-profile commissions. He oversees one of three ZHA design business units.
He was project architect for the Mind Zone exhibition building within the Millennium Dome (2000, receiving RIBA Award), as well as the inaugural summer pavilion project for London’s Serpentine Gallery (2000).
At a smaller scale, Jim was also project architect for the Maggie’s Fife Cancer Care Centre in Scotland (2006), He was also project director for the Evelyn Grace Academy in London (2010), which delivers an expansive curriculum on one-eighth of the traditionally required site area, winning the 2010 Stirling Prize.
Jim was project director for the £245m London Aquatics Centre which formed a key venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Dr Eddie O’Connor, Executive Chairman, Mainstream Renewable Power
“Eddie is a world renowned entrepreneur and leader in renewable energy. He founded Mainstream in 2008 following ten years as Chief Executive of global renewable energy company Airtricity which he founded in 1997. Airtricity was sold in 2008 to E.on and Scottish & Southern Energy (SSE) .
Eddie has been named World Energy Policy Leader by Scientific American magazine and Oilprice.com cited him as one of the five most influential figures in the US clean energy sector. He was presented with the Leadership award at the annual Ernst & Young Global Renewable Energy Awards and in 2013 he received wind energy’s most prestigious award, the Poul La Cour Prize from the European Wind Energy Association in recognition of his work in the sector. In May 2016, Eddie was appointed as the Global Wind Energy Council’s (GWEC) new Global Ambassador.

Dr William Brazil, research fellow in the TRiSS research centre in Trinity College Dublin
His research areas include sustainable mobility, intelligent transport systems, behavioural economics, and emerging transport technologies. Dr Brazil will be speaking about the role of smart cities in a transport context, including journey planning applications, the role of transport information and traffic monitoring in urban transport, and the application of emerging technologies.
