José Paulo Dos Santos started studying engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra in Portugal before leaving to study architecture in England, at the Canterbury School of Architecture and then the Royal College of Arts, from where he graduated in 1981. He became an accredited teacher in Portugal in 1983. After a first internship with Alvaro Siza (1978-79) he worked in New York and then with Foster Associates between 1982 and 1984, the year in which he established his own office. Amongst his most recent projects: Guest House, Convent Loios in Arraiolos, 1996; houses in Covela, 2008; Conservatory of Music, Coimbra, 2011. J.P. Dos Santos has taught in (amongst other places) Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Switzerland (ETH Zurich) and Portugal.
