Bruther was created in 2007 by Stéphanie Bru and Alexandre Theriot, practicing in the realm of architecture, research, urbanism and landscape, their projects are motivated by the conviction that architecture happens when the unnecessary is dispensed with. Their projects, such as the Cultural and Sports Centre in St Blaise, the House of Research and Imagination, and Helsinki Central Library, can be defined using more than just formal criteria. While these projects can be considered rational, structural and sculptural they constitute something more. Their strength is not only to give an accurate answer to a given programme; it is also to anticipate the unavoidable question of flexibility, that which our contemporary way of life will soon require. Their work is imbued with a conviction that infrastructure must be malleable to a variety of uses, that adaptability is a moral duty of contemporary architecture.
This AAI talk will take place in the JM Synge Theatre, Arts Building, Trinity College Dublin
