Design POP- Ireland’s first design and food festival

Now in its inaugural year, Design POP is merging the very best in design and food for an unforgettable festival taking place from May 17-19. Six top designers will collaborate with six local food producers to create six pop-up installations across Cork city throughout the festival weekend along with events, talks, discussions and exhibitions – most of which are free of charge to access and enjoy.

Eva Jiricna will host a key lecture on Saturday, May 18th at 2pm in the Crawford Art Gallery that will detail her award-winning work and extensive career. Originally from the Czech Republic, Eva now runs her own architecture company in London. Eva is renowned for her work in Victoria and Albert Museum, Canada Water Bus Station, Leicester Library, Orangery at Prague’s Castle and many others. She is a member of The Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Designer for Industry, and an honorary member of The Royal Society of Arts. She has been awarded by CBE and received 11 honorary doctorates. Recently she has been awarded the Ambassador of the Czech Republic by the Czech Top 100 and Lifetime Achievement Medal by the London Design Festival. Tickets for this unmissable lecture are available on Eventbrite and are priced at €7.

After the key lecture, Eva will join Managing Director of Wilson Architecture, Frank O’Mahony and Director of The National Sculpture Gallery, Valerie Byrne in a panel discussion taking place in the Sculpture Gallery in Crawford Art Gallery on Saturday, May 18th at 3pm. The panelists will discuss topics on architecture, cultural spaces and the development of culture in cities. Frank has over 37 years experience working on the design and project management of a large range of building types. Valerie has worked for various art organisations over the past 20 years. With such eclectic and interesting backgrounds, this panel discussion is not to be missed with limited tickets available on Eventbrite priced at €5.
