Architectural Conservation and Original Drawing Competition

10.04.12

The Irish Georgian Society invites applications for its Architectural Conservation and Original Drawing Awards 2012 from Irish registered architects or architectural firms, building surveyors and other professionals involved in the conservation of historic buildings in Ireland. Intended to promote greater appreciation of Ireland’s built heritage and the work of conservation professionals, the Award’s winners will be announced at a ceremony in the autumn.

There will be three award categories: one for a conservation project; one for a non-CAD drawing relating to a historic building; and one for a CAD drawing relating to an historic building. This last category is being introduced so as to encourage new entrants and to present further opportunities to highlight work in this field.

In 2011 the Architectural Conservation Award was presented to Russborough, Co. Wicklow and recognised the commitment of the Alfred Beit Foundation, of Howley Hayes Architects and of all the craftsmen and contractors who succeeded in the sensitive restoration of this great house. Also in this category, a Commendation was presented for the restoration of The Camellia House, Shane’s Castle, Co. Antrim which was undertaken by Alistair Coey Architects for Shane’s Castle Co. Ltd. In the Original Drawing Award Category, Commendations were presented to Liam Mulligan SCSI, for his rendering of the Red House, Youghal, Co. Cork and to Mark Costello RIAI, for his drawing of ‘Dublin’s Parlour’ and the Point Depot.

Applications for historic buildings of all types are welcomed with previously shortlisted projects including churches, civic structures, follies and houses both urban and rural. Forms for the awards are available on the Society’s website (www.igs.ie) and applications must be received in the Society’s offices before 12 noon Friday 8th June 2012.
