Create, the national development agency for collaborative arts in Ireland together with the Collaborative Arts Partnership Programme (CAPP) network are delighted to announce the full programme for Practice and Power – a transnational event exploring questions of negotiation, exchange and representation in contemporary collaborative arts practice.

From the 20th to 23rd June, Practice and Power will welcome artists, curators, and arts organisations and institutions from Spain, Finland, Germany, the UK, Hungary and of course Ireland, to discuss, share and learn together as well as showcase work and projects from this four year journey. Contributors include Jeanne Van Heeswijk, Pier Luigi Sacco, Chrissie Tiller, Christopher Kline, Anna Furse, Jakob and Manila Bartnik, Barby Asante, Patrick Fox, Seamus Nolan, Sibylle Peters, Steve Maher, Caique Tizzi, Christian Fernández Mirón, Katalin Erdödi, Sarah Browne, Michael Birchall, Susanne Bosch and many more.

Practice and Power highlights

Panel: Socially-engaged practice and (under)representation | 21 June | 15:30 – 17:30
This event brings together artists Sarah Browne and Barby Asante to talk about the work they’ve made on human rights, representation and underrepresentation. They will be joined by Amit Rai and the conversation will be chaired by Cecilia Wee.

Exhibition Launch: Seamus Nolan Traveller Collection | 21 June | 18:30 – 20:00
Seamus Nolan’s commission investigates the idea of archive, deconstructs ideas on ‘heritage’ and engages with communities of both place and interest, including Traveller activists and archivists.

Halfway to Infinity: Feast & after-party | 22 June | 18:30 – 23:00 | Admission: €35
Halfway to Infinity by Caique Tizzi will be a unique dining experience; an absolute feast for the senses with performances and a closing conversation. Reflecting the four years or ‘chapters’ of CAPP, four delicious courses, will be theatrically presented for your pleasure. These diverse dishes will be punctuated by performative provocations – diners will be invited to consider how these taste-concepts relate to aspects of collaborative practice.

Bring Your Own Chair: Town Visit, Callan | 23 June | 10:30 – 19:00
Bring Your Own Chair (BYOC) is a portrait of 12 rural towns in the South-east region led by artist Michelle Browne and produced by Workhouse Union. As the heart of small towns in Ireland face decline, BYOC highlights the realities of rural civic life. Through the act of bringing their own chair, the audience has the chance to engage in a collective action, exploring the potential of public space as a shared resource. Join us on this unique excursion to Callan in Co. Kilkenny to experience Bring Your Own Chair action research and the wider ecology of practice in the town.
