Open House Junior 2012

ARCHITECTURE FOR ALL AGES!
We were delighted to present Open House Junior 2012, an ever-popular part of our Open House Dublin weekend (5 – 7 October 2012), full of fun ways for young people to explore the city and its landmark buildings, completely for free.

Family tours included a walking tour of Trinity College Dublin campus for the ‘students of the future’ and ‘Museum of a Museum’ at the Natural History Museum. Or if you’d liked to be more hands on, their were many workshops available: discovering the architectural secrets of the Egyptian pyramids – and making your own – at an Ancient Architectural Wonders workshop at the National Museum of Ireland; creating your own mini-building in If We Build It They Will Come! at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane; joining the Window On The National Print Museum printmaking workshop inspired by the Museum’s stained glass windows; joining artist Andrew Brown in Unpicking Architecture at the National Gallery: these and more took place over the weekend. And for teenagers, exploring architectural space and art at IMMA’s Studio8 For Young People at IMMA @ NCH.

The special edition of the Irish Architecture Foundation’s Family Architrek pack was available in The Irish Times on 2 October 2012. The Arts-in-the-Classroom supplement featured excerpts from Architrek activity packs for Temple Bar, Trinity College and Dún Laoghaire. Architreks enable children to experience their built environment through fun-filled observation games, sketching and quizzes along specially selected routes. Suitable for families with children aged 5–10. Full versions of Architreks are available to download from our website here.

There were Family Architrek tours over Open House Dublin weekend, led by the IAF Education Team. Family Architrek: Tour of Trinity on Saturday 6 October and Family Architrek: Dún Laoghaire Waterfront on Sunday 7 October. See website for details www.architecturefoundation.ie/openhouse.
