On 26 November a group of 12 keen sketchers joined Limerick-based architects Maria Donoghue and James Corbett for a Sketching Tour of Limerick city, beginning at the Irish Architecture Foundation’s exhibition of de Blacam and Meagher in Limerick City Gallery. Using the various types of drawings featured in of de Blacam and Meagher as a starting point, the group began by sketching the exhibition room itself and then journeyed through some of Limerick city’s historic and contemporary spaces, including Pery Square, The Crescent, St. John’s Square and the Milk Market. The tour looked at the history and materiality of the city’s buildings and spaces and utilised things such as the elevations of a typical Limerick laneway and the quirks and anomalies sometimes found in Limerick’s Georgian grain to try out various drawing and observation techniques.

of de Blacam and Meagher, Ireland’s participation in the 12th Venice Architecture Biennale commissioned by the Irish Architecture Foundation, continues in Limerick City Gallery of Art until 23 December. Ireland’s participation at Venice, and the exhibition’s return to Ireland is an initiative of Culture Ireland in partnership with the Arts Council of Ireland.
