Conversations About Architecture

In order to hear the views of the public on how architecture should develop in the coming years and for these views to inform the Policy, the Irish Architecture Foundation coordinated a series of nation-wide public workshops during May and June of 2007. These events were open to everyone to attend and took the form of facilitated, round-table discussions.

These events occured in Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, Galway; Museum of Treasures, Waterford City; Lewis Glucksman Gallery, University College Cork; Limerick City Gallery of Art, Limerick; The Dock, Carrick on Shannon, Leitrim; Athlone Civic Centre, Athlone, Co. Westmeath; Fingal County Hall, Swords, Co Dublin; and The Ark, Temple Bar, Dublin. From these events, a series of consultation reports were produced to inform the Government Policy on Architecture.

The Department of Environment, Heritage and Local Government developed a Government Policy on Architecture, overseen by a Steering Committee appointed in 2007 by the Minister of Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr John Gormley, T.D. The Steering Committee and various associated groups worked towards identifying important issues that will be key to a future architecture policy.
