Agents of Architecture: Zoë Ryan talk

24.05.12

On the 24 May we welcomed our second speaker in our Agents of Architecture lecture series, Zoë Ryan and Chair Alex Milton.

On the 24 May we welcomed our second speaker in our Agents of Architecture lecture series, Zoë Ryan and Chair Alex Milton. Agents of Architecture is an ongoing series of national and international talks curated by the Irish Architecture Foundation in partnership with the Irish Museum of Modern Art, aimed at expanding the practice of architecture to include people who work with architecture either by curating it, or designing it, or redefining it, or questioning it.

Zoë Ryan, John H. Bryan Chair and Curator of Architecture and Design at The Art Institute of Chicago, spoke in detail about her role of curating and collecting acts of innovation for the museum, and how these in turn can engage the public with architecture and design and change their perceptions. Her enthusiasm for collaborative processes and opening up new ways of thinking were demonstrated through various projects that she has commissioned, ranging from lighting systems to Japanese lantern chairs to imaginary bicycle lanes. Her upcoming exhibition with Studio Gang (who built the famous Aqua Tower in Chicago) looks like one not to be missed!

We are very happy to announce the success of our series thus far and look forward to our third instalment with speaker Anne Lacaton on Tuesday 18th September.
