Pecha Kucha Night, devised by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham (Klein Dytham architecture), was conceived in 2003 as a place for young designers and artist to meet, network, and show their work in public. This is a demand that seems to be global – as Pecha Kucha Night, without any pushing, has spread vitally to over 100 cities across the world! An exhibition celebrating the work of the renowned Italian architect Andrea Palladio (1508-1580) is running in the Irish Architectural Archive Exhibition Gallery until 26 May 2010. Organized in association with the Embassy of Italy, the Italian Cultural Institute and Dublin City Council, and featuring arresting photographs of some of Palladio’s most significant buildings by the renowned Italian photographer Pino Guidolotti, the exhibition explores the origins of Palladianism in the Veneto. Also on display are a rare original copy of Daniele Barabaro’s 1567 edition of Vitruvius’s De Architectura, illustrated by Palladio, a 1742 edition of Giacomo Leoni’s of Palladio’s Four Books of the Architecture once owned by the architect James Gandon, and a facsimile of the Four Books of the Architecture. The festival has grown from strength to strength and to mark its ten year anniversary has changed its name and extended its programme. Artists, architects and creative practitioners working in all media and materials are invited to participate in Recharge, a workshop event organised by TransColonia. Recharge aims to bring the ideas of unrealised architectural projects to life and participants will be invited to create a work in response to an online archive of unbuilt works. TransColonia, a recycled space initiative, is temporarily located in a vacant retail unit in Dublin 1. The workshop is FREE but places are limited so early booking is essential.
